The Defeat

It’s been raining for days. Maybe for weeks.

A lot.

But it’s warm. Not sunny, not hot. Lukewarm humidity lingers like a soft carpet in the air. Dampness makes the air grey and thick, breathing has been difficult for days.

Or maybe it’s sorrow that makes my breaths painful and throbbing. The sadness of losing summer. Once again.

I’ll never get used to this defeat.

There is 4 defeats in every year. Too much sorrow to remember them all.

Well, that's a way to think, also...

It's much the same over here, but IO was optimistic enough to hang my laundry to dry out in the green today.

This feels sometimes like in the Far-East, Azer, although not such heat -laundry is a problem!

It's the same same here. I agree.

Where?

Love the design of the graphic, and the colors as well.

Although my recent two weeks of vacation was 95% perfect weather, we seem to be reminded every day that this summer is not to last for long. Your defeat is my defeat, neither can I handle it very well ... (sigh!).

Everywhere, Lepis.

Let's be miserable together, Mick!

I would have felt the same way had I spent my whole summer in the dripping wet heat of the Ozarks. Having spent it in the cooler Pacific Northwest this year, I had to let go of my attachment to the warmth of the sun and summer's consistency as I had come to know it. In the letting go, I have, so it seems, also let go of my expectation (which only ever arose from my fixed desire) that summer stay with me.

I am ready for the cool rains and the shadows that await me, almost as if this Pacific blue has somehow vaccinated me against the shattering, crashing cold I once found so devastatingly bitter.

This year I hope the cold of winter will always feel like a refreshing slap on the cheek rather than the heartbreaking sting of former years, otherwise I too shall be defeated.

Hope your dreams of the winter come true, Polydora.

In Finland the winter can be reasonable sometimes, but when it gets 20-30 degrees below zero (in Celsius) and north wind begins to blow, the snow starts coming and the sun won't show up for a month, that's my defeat.

Temps like that, susu, would make me run - run, run and keep running. That or do me in.

I know, I've been trying to run for years, but I can't get away.
So, since I can't sleep through the winter like bears, I must try to survive with doing things I like -to write, make pictures and have some wine.
