Seashells

I remember the fragrance of the sea, the salty tickle in my nose, and the pearls of water on my skin, the musky scent of seashells we had been picking all day. I remember all those odours, but most of all I remember the perfume of my mother, her warm hand on my hand, her smile when she looked at me, and the gentle stroke in my hair.
I remember it.

Or was it a dream?

Or a wish I once had? Still have?

At least it´s a beautiful dream, if it didn´t happen for real. It is not always important to be true to one´s memories. I believe most of us need comforting thoughts to think back.

Feelings are more important than actual happenings, Almamaria. Maybe, in some circumstances.

Memories are seldom exact. Luckily.

Yes, that's a good thing, HPY. And stories told become memories, although they have nothing to do with the truth. Photos one looks at become also memories and you think you remember everything.

Yes, what you really remember and what you have been told by people or images is a mistery. From which age are you relly sure to have clear memories? ... and how many dreams do you remember? All completely confused - and filtered - in our minds.

Yes, Peter, that is true. At least for me, I'm not sure which are my own memories and which are the stories I've been told or photos I've seen.

Does it really matter if its true or not as long as it is comforting like yours? The memory.

SusuPetal said...

You're right, Liisa. The feeling is more important, not if the memory is true.
