Curious

When I want to see,

not to be seen,

I climb higher and higher.

On the roof tops I sit,

looking down and up,

up I go.

Until there’s nothing left to see.

Only the bare nothingness of everything.

Worth seeing.

Life Is Like That

These last few weeks have changed my life. I didn’t want these changes, and I’d do anything to make things as they used to be.

Life isn’t like that. There are things you can’t out power.

I’ve been observing myself: do I have strength enough; are these changes something I’m able to cope with? What happens, if I break down? If one morning I won’t get up, if I stay in bed, if I refuse to hang on.

Life isn’t like that. There are things you have to do, and the sayings of people are just words with good intention but nothing more.

You must think of yourself. You must take care of yourself; otherwise you won’t be able to help others. You must try to sleep and rest.
Life isn’t like that. There’s going to be a lot of sleepless nights, nights filled with nightmares, days filled with anxious and painful moments, sorrow and worry, and some occasional glimpses of hope. Maybe.

Life is like that.

Six Random But English Things About Me

Kutuharju tagged me to tell about six characteristic things in me. Especially I was challenged to name six English attributes describing me.

Well, I have to take this easy, otherwise it’s going to be way too difficult to define what typical English features are on the whole.

  • I like tea, although I seldom put the kettle on nowadays. Instead I make my tea with microwave, yes, a shame, but times, they are a’ changing.
  • I love football, i.e. real football, also known as soccer in some parts of the globe. But it’s football to me, no soccer.
  • I prefer British accent to American and I speak likewise. American English sounds a bit funny in my ears, but not as funny as Australian English.
  • I like chips. I can eat them without fish.
  • I like beer.
  • My sense of humour is odd and dry.

So, in my world, all Englishmen like tea, are football-fans, pronounce words differently than in Hollywood-films, eat chips with beer and laugh at peculiar things.

Maybe not. But here, in this post, they do.

I tag Hèlène , Itkupilli in English , chrome 3d, Elegia, Lepis and Liisa to write about six random things about themselves. In English, please, but not necessarily about English features.

Sunday Classic

My Finnish co-blogger Lepis started some time ago a category called Sunday Classic in the blog Parallel Lines and soon  many other bloggers and some more and more followed Lepis’s steps.

Me too.

It’s fun to stroll along memory lane on Sundays, listen to all kind of music, find old goodies and learn about artists you’ve never heard of before. Youtube is a golden source for reminiscing.

My pick for this Sunday is a classic from 1966. The song has inspired many people, and I was inspired too. That is why I had to make my own video for this classic

Year 2008, Goodbye

This year is soon done. This autumn is soon over. This autumn, one of the hardest in my life, I’m happy to throw away.
I’d jump with joy when getting rid of this year, but I seem to have very little strength left. And all the power that still remains, I’ll save for the one who needs it more than I do.
I’d jump with joy, if I’d believe that the New Year brings light and hope. I’m not sure of that, and I just stay still. That is enough.
I wish you all a peaceful Christmas.

The Swans

Do you remember the swans?

How they flew over us when we slept on the grass?

Do you remember the softness of the green,

the fierce rumble of the wings? Do you recall

the blue of the sky sheltering us?

Can you still remember?

Or am I alone? Without you,

without the swans of freedom?

I've been dedicated a video!

I’ve been having the flu for almost two weeks, but finally I got antibiotics for sinusitis, so maybe I’ll be back on the Net in a few days.

Meanwhile, my fellow blogger, Azer Mantessa from Malaysia, has made a video dedicated for me! Oh, this pleases my aching head very much. Thank you, Azer. You've captured my Finnish melancholy well, but not forgetting the persistent hint of hope that also exists in us Finns.

You can watch Azer’s other videos here.

How to Survive November

I’ve been away from the Net for a few days, mainly trying to survive November. So far I’m succeeding, though it’s hard.
November is a cruel month. Darkness, gloominess and misery, yes these are my middle names for the moment
A Finnish co-blogger, Lepis, has created a category “how to survive November”. Every day we are inspired and challenged to fight against the moodiness of this season. Lepis has made us think about points and lines, colours and sounds, and we’ve done our best to create something to make us forget these shadows hanging around us.
I’ve made a video about points meeting lines.
